Welcome To
The Phoenix Mechanical
Energy Learning Center!
This special section of our website is designed for learning about renewable energy and fossil fuel sources.
Use the links at the right to explore different forms of energy!
Some Italicized words below will also link you to more
information.
Energy usage plays a large part in our lives every day.
Unfortunately, the cost of energy continues to rise, with no end in sight.
Until recently, we have had little or no option but to pay the increasing cost for electricity and the fuel to heat our home.
Many of us have seen our home energy costs double in just the past
3-4 years. Will you be prepared to see your home energy cost
double again in the next few years?
Technology in renewable energy systems has advanced tremendously in recent years. New tax credits are making these systems even more affordable. There may be additional incentives for farmers and select businesses (ask us how!).
With the increased affordability of renewable energy systems, we now have some options to combat our skyrocketing energy costs
The best part of renewable energy systems, the fuel cost is FREE!
Never pay a dime for the sun or wind.
Geothermal is also a renewable fuel source. The heating and cooling itself is free, but you still need electricity to move the heat.
Geothermal is still a bargain with its super efficiency. For every $1 spent on electricity, you get almost $4 worth of heating &
cooling. Compared to an 80% efficient furnace, they get 80 cents worth of heat for every Dollar spent.
Geothermal will soon be made even more super efficient by using a solar panel or windmill to power the electriciy.
Electricity use in the U.S. is expected to increase 40% in the next 25 years, and nearly 300 new power plants will need to be built to meet this demand. Who do you think will pay for them?
Home heating fuels are fossil based. As many former third world countries come into the "energy age," the demand for these fossil fuels will increase. Prices are based on supply and demand. As the demand increases, the supply decreases, the prices go up.
Record energy prices were seen in 2008, just a few months ago.
It is true that we are seeing some relief at the moment, but don't
expect that temporary relief to last. Once the global economy picks up, the industrial demand for fuel will increase, and so will
the prices.
Whether your goal is to reduce your energy cost by 15, 25, 50%
or more, Phoenix Mechanical has an
energy system to help reduce your energy cost!
Examples of energy uses include: electricity, transportation, heating and cooling for your home, business or school, and more.
This website focuses mostly on the kind of energy used in your home: electricity, heating and cooling, as well as renewable energy
and things that affect our environment.
Where does the energy for our homes, schools, businesses and automobiles come from?
Most of our energy come from fossil fuels.
What are fossil fuels?
They were formed long ago in the days of the dinosaurs. We use fossil fuels in the form of oil, petroleum and coal. Oil and
petroleum are separated to form many other different
energy sources including gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, natural gas, propane, kerosene, and more.
Plastics, asphalt, waxes, ladies make-up and more are made from petroleum products. As you can see, fossil fuels play a very important part in our lives.
Just like the number of dinosaurs that roamed the Earth, fossil fuels are limited. When they are gone, ...they are gone!Scientist predict that if we do nothing to change our current use of fossil fuels, especially oil & petroleum, our lives will be changed forever. Making no changes to our current usage, we could run out of oil & petroleum by the year 2057.
What happens if we run out of oil and petroleum? Let's hope we never find out!
Planning ahead and using alternative energy sources
are very important. The more we learn about energy, the better decisions we can make!
Planning ahead and making changes in our energy use now, will make a big difference.
Energy Conservation will help your parents save money, and cut back on the fossil fuel sources that we use.
Conserving energy and making better alternative energy choices, will help make sure we have plenty of fossil fuels left in the
future for other uses that we will need, like plastics.
Look around your home. Could you imagine what it would be like with
no plastics?
Another reason to reduce our fossil fuel usage is pollution.
Pollution contaminates the air we breathe and the water we drink. It can even get into our food supplies.
Alternative Energy, also known as Renewable Energy, is quickly becoming a more common part of our energy supply.
Renewable energy
is an energy source that is usually free, and can be renewed. Fossil fuels can not be renewed, there are no more dinosaurs!
Renewable Energy comes from sources such as sunlight, wind and water.
You have probably heard the names, solar, wind and hydro
power.
