Home Air Quality
and Air Purification
50 percent of U.S. allergy sufferers indicated that allergies negatively affected their work.
More than 35 million Americans have indoor and outdoor upper respiratory allergies.
Indoor allergies occur when indoor allergens, such as dust mite feces, pet dander, and mold are inhaled into the nose and lungs, causing allergic reactions.
Fort Wayne, Indiana is rated #14 in the Great Lakes Region for top "Allergy Cities".
Asthma can be a life threatening disease if not properly managed. Controlling the air quality in your home is a very important part of asthma and allergy care.
A central air filtration system may be helpful in reducing some indoor air pollutants when used with effective source control and ventilation. (ALA)
Inadequate ventilation can increase indoor pollutant levels by not bringing in enough outdoor air to dilute emissions from indoor sources and by not carrying indoor air pollutants out of the home. High temperature and humidity levels can also increase concentrations of some pollutants.(EPA)
According to the EPA, the air inside your home may be up to five times more polluted than the air outside. Pollutants in your home's air can cause poor indoor air quality, which in turn may cause dizziness and headaches, plus aggravate allergies and asthma.
Phoenix Mechanical can help you with the Air Quality system you want or need.
Our air quality product line includes: Air Cleaners,
Air Purification systems,
Germicidal Lights, Ventilators, Humidifiers, Central Vaccum Systems, and Merv-10 & 16 filters.
What is the MERV rating on furnace filters?
The MERV rating system will tell you how well a furnace filter can filter the air, and what size particles it will catch.
MERV ratings range from
1-16, with a 16 being the most effective.
A typical one inch disposable filter has a MERV-1 rating, which will catch items of 3 microns in size or larger. This means
it will catch
less than 20% of visible dust, pollen, molds and bacteria.
We like to call these filters "butterfly
catchers!" For comparison sizing, a human hair is about 70 microns in diameter.
The human nose has a MERV rating of about an 8.
If your furnace filter has a MERV rating below an 8, your nose actually does a better
job of filtering the air than your filter does.
